Paxos is 10km long and 4km wide and is the smallest ionian island separated from Corfu's southern most tip by 11km of water.The island has a captivating landscape of centuries old olive groves, dry stone walls and derelict farm houses
There are only 3 coastal settlements on the island of Paxos. Gaios, Loggos and Lakka and a few inland villages.
The whole island is walkable although good roads do cover the length of the island.
Paxos's east coast has small pebble beaches, while the west has large, breathtaking cliffs and caves only accessible by boat.
According to mythology, Paxos was cut off from the mainland by a single blow from Poseidon's trident. The sea god is said to have dragged the piece of land south to create an idyllic island retreat for himself and his mistress. The trident is the symbol of the island.
