Paleokastritsa, known as Paleo to visitors, is probably one of the most picturesque and photographed resorts on the whole island.
Virtually untouched by the tourist trade, Paleokastritsa�¢??s landscape has taken over and it has a very peaceful, relaxed atmosphere to it. All roads along this side of the coastline stop at the end of the resort, giving it a real sense of arrival.
Many of the hotels and accommodation are set so far back from the main road that they are a taxi ride from the main street of cosy bars, shops and restaurants. This was once a small fishing village and the small amount of growth the village has seen has not taken this traditional element away.
It has a series of small bay beaches scattered along the coastline, with many requiring steep steps down to get to the secluded areas. The harbour and beaches at Alipo Bay are home to organised boat trips and the crystal water in this area provides an excellent environment for scuba diving.
