Kassopi, originaly a small fishing village and still used as such to this day, can be dated back to at least 1140 when the castle that overlooks the natural harbour was first built to repel pirates who used to frequently raid the coastline. Things however have moved along since those far off days and the castle is now just a ruin while the village has adapted and grown to be one of the best resorts on the island. There are four beaches around the town and the most frequented Kalamionas beach has been awarded the coveted blue flag. Most of the property development in this area is being built in the surrounding hills which command stunning views down on the village and out accros the Corfu channel to mainland Albania.
