The road leading to the town of Afionas takes you as far North West as you can go, it ends right at the seafront. This is a picturesque village which is quieter than some of the surrounding towns.
There is much ancient architecture for those loving the Greek history that blankets the island. The intimate church of the town is perched on the headland with a lane leading down to the cape running alongside it. It is said that this North End of the bay is the likely site of King Alkinoos's castle, while only a few ruins remain to this day.
The village offers a small selection of tavernas, with the best overlooking the bay, where you can also rent holiday rooms.
